Baptism

Baptism

If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then baptism is your next step. This public symbol of our faith says that you were once dead, but now you are alive in Christ. It is your opportunity to tell your story in the way that Jesus commanded. Answers to many common questions regarding baptism can be answered by reading our Baptism FAQ.

What is baptism?

Baptism is an act of obedience that illustrates Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. It also illustrates death to our old life and our new birth in Christ. Baptism doesn’t save us; it tells people that Jesus is our Lord.

Why should I be baptized?

  • To follow the example set by Jesus (Mark 1:9)
  • Jesus Himself commanded it (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • Baptism publicly demonstrates that a person is a believer (Acts 18:8)
  • Baptism openly demonstrates obedience to Jesus Christ (Luke 6:46)

When should I be baptized

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized. Just like a bride and groom show others their love for one another by wearing wedding bands, your baptism is your opportunity to show others that you have received Christ and are seeking to walk with Him.

How does Impact do baptism?

Impact practices baptism by immersion because we believe it’s most in line with the Scriptures.

  • Jesus was baptized by immersion (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10)
  • Baptisms in the Bible were by immersion (Acts 8:38-39)
  • The word transliterated “baptize” literally means “to dip under”
  • Immersion best symbolizes a burial and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4)

What about my children?

Impact practices baby dedications for parents to express their desire to partner with the church in raising their children to know and love God. These baby dedications look forward to the day when the child makes their own decision to follow Christ as Lord and Savior, and the child will then be baptized as a public profession of their own faith.

Where does Impact baptize?

We have several baptism events per year, some outside during warmer weather and others in Sunday worship services.

What if I have been previously baptized?

Baptism is a public proclamation of your faith in Christ. If your baptism was your decision and it accurately represented your new faith and life in Christ, then you have done what the scriptures ask. If you are not sure, we recommend you explore baptism as a next step.
